Seal Storage partners with the Content Authenticity Initiative to combat misinformation and promote content trust. Learn how digital metadata can empower content verification and foster a transparent digital landscape.
Seal is excited to become a member of the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI), a collaborative industry effort aiming to establish a standard for verifying the authenticity and origin of digital content. Seal joins more than 1,500 media and tech companies, NGOs, and academics including Microsoft, the New York Times, and Canon, to work together to fight misinformation by pushing the boundaries of open-source digital provenance technology.
Founded by Adobe, the CAI was announced September 12, 2019, during an Adobe MAX conference and since then, the initiative has continued to grow and gain support from various organizations and industry leaders committed to addressing the challenges of content authenticity in our current digital age.
The initiative focuses on addressing the growing challenge of misinformation and manipulated media, which can have wide ranging consequences on society. CAI aims to develop a system that enables users to determine the authenticity and integrity of digital content, such as images, videos, and audio files. With the increasing prevalence of misinformation and manipulated media, CAI's efforts address the challenges associated with content authenticity, contributing to the promotion of trust and accuracy in the digital landscape.
Through the CAI, industry leaders, technology providers, and content creators work together to establish standards and best practices for content authenticity. The initiative seeks to ensure that digital content can be traced back to its original source, providing users with the means to verify its authenticity and detect any potential alterations or manipulations.
By promoting transparency and accountability in digital content, the Content Authenticity Initiative fosters a more trustworthy digital environment.
The CAI offers open-source tools and proposes the use of digital metadata embedded within the content itself. This metadata includes information about the content's author, origin, edits, and history. By leveraging this embedded information, users can verify the authenticity of the content they encounter.
The initiative envisions a future where content creators can digitally sign their work, establishing a chain of trust and accountability. This system would not only benefit creators by protecting their content from unauthorized use and manipulation but also empower consumers to make more informed decisions based on reliable and trustworthy information.
The CAI aims to create an open standard that can be adopted by various platforms, tools, and organizations. By collaborating and working together, the initiative strives to make content authenticity a fundamental aspect of the digital landscape, fostering trust and integrity in the content we consume and share.
