Seal joined CERN’s Rucio community last week at the 7th Rucio Community Workshop at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. In this blog, we'll share an overview of Rucio, its community, and how Seal supports Rucio researchers and experiments.
Rucio is a data management platform built by CERN to help researchers around the world organize, manage, and access their data. Rucio was initially created to support the ATLAS Experiment at CERN but now supports several Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments and other scientific communities.
Rucio’s community consists of several large institutions and experiments such as ATLAS, CMS, Escape, Belle II, and Dune. The software framework enables these organizations to easily communicate and share data regardless of the data center or data storage provider used.
Seal's verifiable decentralized cloud storage ensures the security and privacy of invaluable research data and intellectual property. Rucio members can confidently utilize Seal’s decentralized solutions to protect scientific research and other information enabling institutions to advance research without compromising data protection or risking unauthorized access to critical assets.
“This is a great opportunity for ATLAS to integrate cutting-edge, commercial cloud storage resources into our distributed computing infrastructure. We are delighted to collaborate with Seal Storage Technology on this R&D project, which has enormous possibilities for expansion and could provide significant distributed archival storage across WLCG sites for the HL-LHC era.” Alessandro Di Girolamo, ATLAS Computing Co-Coordinator, discussing ATLAS' data partnership with Seal
